Location
The first meeting of
KOMAC for the 2008/2009 school year was held at Macaroni Grill on
November 8, 2008. After an incredible lunch and some great networking,
the meeting was called to order by President Sasamon Parker at 12:30
p.m.

Sasamon welcomed all of
the members and introduced herself as President, Kevin Wiersma as
Treasurer, and Mary Cody as Secretary.
Congratulations to KOMAC
on its 40th anniversary! Jim Groendyke started KOMAC forty
years ago, November, 1968. Congratulations to Jim and Richard Beyer for
making a contribution to work study education and KOMAC for 40 years!

Anna Kruse from
Workpaths was our guest speaker. With funding from Michigan Works!,
Workpaths matches businesses with students to offer work based
experiences including internships, job shadows, work place tours, career
speakers and more! Anna would be happy to talk to our members about

Risk Management Conference
The Risk Management
Conference was held in Lansing on October 28 and 29, 2008. PowerPoints,
handouts, and highlights from the event can be found at the MCPA website

Career
Education Conference
The Career Education
Conference will be held February 8 – 10 at the Renaissance Center in
Detroit.
The theme of this conference is “Mapping to College and
Career”. There is a call for presentations out now! If you are
interested in presenting or registering, you can visit

Summer Conference
The summer conference will once again be held at
beautiful Crystal Mountain from June 15-17. For further information,

Membership Encouragement!
We would like to make
sure that all School to Career coordinators know about our meetings and
feel welcome. Please welcome our colleagues to join us at our next
meeting, which will be held in the spring! The recruiting brochure is
attached!
Next
Meeting
Thanks to Sasamon for an
excellent first meeting, and for the bag of goodies! Thanks to all who
took the time to attend our meeting, showing a determination to making
work based learning successful and meaningful for our students
Our next meeting will
be held in March or April. Sam’s Joint in Coopersville was suggested as
a convenient location for our members. They also have a separate room
available, which will make for a quieter environment. Further
information will be forthcoming!
Treasurer’s
Report
Kevin Wiersma reported a
balance of $601. Jim Groendyke motioned to accept the treasurer’s
report; Jerry Keron seconded the motion and it passed. Jim Groendyke
made a motion to keep the dues at $1 at the current time; Rich Moll
seconded, and the motion passed.
Closing
The 50/50
raffle was awarded and Sasamon adjourned the meeting at 2:30 p.m.
